The Airfield will be closed to all traffic on the morning of 29th November 2016 from 0800 – 1330 (local).
We have been informed by Island Roads that they will be carrying out resurfacing works to Newport Road for 8 nights from Tuesday 27th September. The road will be closed from 19:30 to 06:00 each night. However, the works will be staggered from Morrisons roundabout to Sandown Airport, then Sandown Airport towards Apse Heath, so access should always be possible with a slight diversion.
A note for resident pilots regarding the Air Ambulance day this coming Saturday; if you are planning to fly then please ensure your aircraft has been moved from the hangars to airside by 10am at the latest, as the event area will be open to the public until around 5pm. All flying activities will continue as normal except priority will be given to a Spitfire display and any emergency call-outs of the air ambulance itself.
Don’t forget that we’re hosting a blues party on the same evening, starting from 8pm!
Unfortunately due to the imposition of hefty charges for commercial users of the AFPEX flight planning software, we are no longer able to file or operate any flight plans from Sandown tower. All pilots should be prepared to file their own flight plans, and call London Information for activation.
AVGAS 100LL Fuel is available on-site at our self-service pumps (credit/debit card required) which allow out-of-hours operation. Unfortunately we have had to increase the price to £1.66/litre to reflect our wholesale cost.
Please note if you do land out-of-hours there is an honesty box by the entrance to the control tower to pay landing fees (in cash). Many thanks!
The fantastic Laurie McVay and The High Rollers will be performing at our next Blues night on 13th August. This is an evening event in aid of local charities. BBQ food will be on offer but please bring your own alcohol. A donation of £3 is suggested which will go to the local charities we support. Camping is included as part of your overnight landing fee, or £5 if you aren’t in an aircraft.
Dear all: the new team at Sandown look forward to welcoming you to the largest microlight fly-in social of the year-
This year, the airfield is under the new management team of Danial Subhani and (current World Microlight Champion) David Broom.
For those that don’t know, Dan is an enthusiastic microlight pilot and serial entrepreneur, and has already had a large impact on the facilities at Sandown. Attractions this year include:
All you need to do is register here (if you haven’t already).
There is no need to PPR on the day, but you can check the eghn.org.uk website or call the pre-recorded message on the tower telephone for airfield details if unsure. Use of radio is non-mandatory, and at busy times a simple airfield information broadcast may be repeated on 119.275MHz. Late-comers out-of-hours are welcome.
Please respect the local noise-abatement rules (no overflying surrounding built-up areas, and please climb straight ahead for 1nm before turning on climbout).
Please note, the Airfield in now operated by a new custodian; Danial Subhani.
